[ARCHIVED] Avenger Open Space Announcement

Avenger Open Space (1)

Earlier this spring, the City announced that Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) had officially awarded the city of Woodland Park a grant to purchase a 120-acre parcel known as Avenger Open Space. On April 15, 2024, the City closed on the property, officially welcoming a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to preserve open space for all to enjoy in our community.

Our Woodland Park Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, demonstrating their unwavering commitment, has pledged to raise $80,000 through community fundraising efforts. Prior to the grant award, they were able to collect over $50,000 in pledged donations. The Board is actively fundraising to reach their committed fundraising goal. Your contributions will help fulfill the grant's requirements and aid maintenance and development efforts to improve the space well into the future.

The Woodland Park Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, with support from Palmer Land Conservancy, Teller Trail Team, and the City, is seeking community support to enhance this incredible natural asset further. Community members, businesses, and organizations interested in donating to Avenger Open Space have two options available to help:

1. Palmer Land Conservancy. Palmer Land Conservancy will hold the conservation easement on the Avenger Open Space and has graciously agreed to accept donations from those more comfortable donating to a non-profit. Checks should be made payable to “Palmer Land Conservancy”. In the memo line, please write “Avenger Open Space.” Please note that online donations are not being accepted for this project. For questions, please call Astrid Monar at 719-941-9500. Check should be mailed to:

Palmer Land Conservancy
