May 4, 2023, City Council Recap


The May 4 City Council meeting began with the appointment of a new Councilmember to fill the vacated Council term. Carrol Harvey was appointed to City Council by majority vote and took her oath of office at the start of the meeting. Ms. Harvey joined Council on the Diocese to immediately begin service.


The Downtown Development Authority appointed a new member to its board to fill a vacated term. Eric Cabrera, owner of the historic Donut Mill in Woodland Park, was appointed to fill the vacancy and sworn into office by City Clerk, Suzanne Leclercq.


Ashlee Shields, Suicide Prevention Coordinator for Teller County, addressed Council and the community with essential information about mental health resources. An official Proclamation recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month was issued by Mayor LaBarre and the Council for the City of Woodland Park. 


The Woodland Park High School Welding team and team Leader Gary Adamson were recognized by the Mayor and Council for their accomplishments at the State level for welding. Each team member recently placed at the State competition, and are soon headed to the Skills National Leadership competition in Atlanta, Georgia. 


Justin Kurth, Field Representative and Outreach Coordinator for Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen presented to Council. Justin works directly with the Congresswoman, providing services to multiple counties across central Colorado, including Teller County. 


Council approved Resolution No 903, Series 2023, codifying the City Council Rules and Procedures, officially changing the start time of regularly scheduled City Council meetings to begin at 6:30 PM.
