The City’s existing wastewater plant has been in service since September 1992. The new expansion was completed June 30, 2018.
Statistics
The average daily influent flow to the treatment plant for 2024 was 0.650 MGD (million gallons per day). The plant’s 12-month moving average organic loading is 1780 pounds biochemical oxygen demand BOD per day, which is 44% of plant design capacity under the new Discharge Permit. The average of the effluent ammonia analyses for the month was below the detectable limit, compared to our discharge permit limit of 5.3 milligrams per liter (mg/L).
Sludge solids will continue to be composted for reuse as a soil amendment.
Treatment
After the main treatment processes, wastewater solids are dewatered, mixed with wood chips and composted. The City’s compost meets all standards for the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) "unrestricted use" category.
This compost makes a great soil amendment and is FREE to City residents. Call 687-6016 to inquire about supply and pick-up.
